Cartoni is the latest series by Michelangelo Russo, using encaustic and cardboard. Focusing on minimalist it uses element of abstraction and structure to create highly textured pieces that have a three dimensional quality.
The flat surface and the corrugated cross section of the cardboards are both represented to construct each piece. The inner structure of the cardboard becomes less distinct and obscure. The deconstruction of the cardboards leads the artist to a re-conceptualised box where by the container becomes contained.
