PAMELA RATAJ

The Morphology of Forgetting

7 April - 3 May 2010
The sculptural works are both conceptually and technically strong. A black leather hand reaches for another, but is refrained by a glass dome - perhaps representing the boundary between reality and memory - this piece is a poignant expression of the search through memory, for connectedness to people lost. The subjects of the paintings involve layered and woven forms, akin to cerebral matter or figures dancing arm in arm. Rataj’s now characteristic 2D technique consists of acrylic combined with pigment stains which add a further delicacy and fragility to the forms.
